The Maltese breed is known as "ye ancient dogge of malta."

One of the first Maltese shown was at the Westminster's show in 1877.  The Maltese as we know it was signed up as the Maltese Lion Dog.

The Maltese was inducted into the American Kennel Club in 1888.

Maltese are perfect for families, apt living and the elderly.  Extra watchfulness should be given to families with small children.

They are non-shedding and good with people who suffer with allergies, pet dander is non-existent.

Their hair will be long as an adult and requires daily brushing.  However it can be kept short and groomed like it was when they were a puppy.
